A pause after the rush.
Rest does not have to wait for the whole list.
Picture-day mornings invite a particular kind of hurry: one more check, one more thing to remember, everybody out the door. Today’s OyaJava kitchen moment offers a different image to carry alongside that rush: a small daily ritual allowed to take up space.
For Black women who are so often expected to hold everything together, a pause need not be another performance. It can be ordinary. No beautiful room required. No completed list to present first.
Try leaving one moment unassigned. Sit before opening the next tab. Let your shoulders settle. Notice what you would like, without immediately turning that answer into something useful for someone else.
You do not have to make the whole day softer to let this minute be yours.
